The school estate in Greater London
Greater London has 2,601 open state-funded schools and colleges teaching 1,246,062 pupils, spread across 34 local authorities. Source: DfE Get Information About Schools.
Of those, 1,882 primary, 504 secondary, 164 special and 51 further education. The phase mix is what sets the usable roof area across a county: secondary sites and colleges carry the sports halls, dining blocks and flat roofs, while primaries offer a hall and a teaching block each and suit arrays sized to the base load.
School rooftop solar and what a Greater London roof models
Modelled yield is not flat across Greater London. Kingston comes out at 987 kWh per kWp a year against 847 at Sutton, a spread of 140 kWh per kWp.
